Will Elder, one of the original Mad Magazine cartoonists and one of my childhood heroes, died Thursday at the age of 86. While Elder’s parodies of Mickey Mouse and Archie are considered classics of the genre, he may be best known for Little Annie Fanny, a long-running series that appeared in Playboy. Elder’s ability to insert “micro-gags” into the background of incredibly detailed panels was truly unmatched.
